Recipe: Date Orange Cookie Bars
FILLING:
1/2 c. dates, cut up
1 c. water
1/2 c. sugar
2 tbsp. flour
1 lb. 2 oz. pkg. orange slices,
cut lengthwise in 3" slices
Heat dates and water until soft.
Mix sugar and flour and add to
date mixture.
DOUGH:
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. soda
2 tbsp. water
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped nuts
Spread half of dough in 9"x13"
pan. Cover with orange slices,
spread date mixture over that. Put
rest of dough on top (be careful
not to get date mixture on top).
Bake at 350 degrees for 40
minutes. Cool and cut into bars.
