Question by Blakely: Why are “Mexican Wedding Cookies” called that? What’s the story behind them?
I had to make them for Spanish class and I need the history, like where they came from, etc. I mean, MEXICAN wedding cookies, but it could be a misnomer.

I couldn’t find anything on my own.

They are actually called polvorones. They are a traditional cookies served at hispanic weddings and are usually wrapped in colorful paper, so they got nicknamed Mexican Wedding Cookies, but that’s a nickname.

The website below has some historical information on them.
