What would you never give up even if a Doctor said you must?

Question by Robert O: What would you never give up even if a Doctor said you must?
I’m not speaking to drugs or alcohol that require rehab. I’m speaking to food, lifestyle habits, sports, or activity.
You’re having a checkup and you’re doctor says you have to give up fatty foods, or sugar, or running marathons. Things of this nature. What is so dear or such a part of your identity that you would not give it up?

Well, if it literally came down to life or death, I would change. I hope I would, anyway. Otherwise, I am my own best doctor, and can make the most profound decision about my life, even if it may appear strange – and counter-productive – to others, and to doctors. Nobody has the depth to understand what quality of life means to me at a deep level more than I do, not by a long shot. I would listen to the sound advice from others, and maybe compromise…have fatty foods once a week sort of thing, instead of every day.

What is so dear or such a part of your identity that you would not give it up? You can’t give it up to a great extent. You are who you are. Why don’t people stop smoking, for example, when the doctor says they should, or must? Because they have an addiction which has bored to the core of their soul. It is part of them now. If it weren’t, they would change.

Like several members of my family I am diabetic and find it very hard to give up some things.Sugar was no problem as I’ve never been a sweet tooth & I don’t eat cakes or cookies etc.Butter is my problem,I do have the olive oil spread but love a bit of butter now and then.Guinness is another thing I love but I only have that on St Patrick’s Day,lol. I can drink white wine though.

I would probably follow Doctors Orders, I have done so many that a few more wouldn’t matter.
She would like me to give up smoking, but doesn’t hammer me about it as you might think.
