Were those Iced animal cookies just shortbread cookies with icing?

Question by Aya Zala: Were those Iced animal cookies just shortbread cookies with icing?
I was craving those little devils and wouldn’t you know, the bags seem to be unavailable in my area. Trying to re-create the magic of my 80′s kid happiness, I wanted to make some at home. Anybody got any idea what they were made of ? Stupid elves hide everything, but I think they were just shortbread cookies with icing. Anybody know for sure?

Animal Crackers

1/2 c oatmeal-blended in blender until it is a flour
2 ts honey
1/4 t salt
3/4 c flour
1/4 t soda
1/4 c unsalted butter, softened
1/4 c buttermilk

Do not grease cookie sheet. Grind 1/2 cup oatmeal in blender until fine. Add honey, salt, flour and soda. Cut in butter. Add buttermilk. Roll very thin, cut with animal shaped cookie cutters.

Bake at 400ºF until brown (10 to 12 minutes).

and if you want to make them the BEST…You need to ice them with a simple confectioners icing tinted in pastels… :)

Meiji Mushroom Moutain maybe?

Kinoko no Yama are mushroom-shaped treats, with the stem being a cookie and the cap being a melt-in your-mouth chocolate.

Here’s a j-list link that shows a box of them if this is what your thinking of.
