Can you freeze spices to make them last longer?

Question by Tonya F: Can you freeze spices to make them last longer?
I am single and cook often. I have a lot of spices and I know that I have had some for a really long time because I only use them for certain dishes (cream of tartar when making holiday cookies, etc.) Am I able to freeze the spices that I buy at the store and if so, how much longer do they last?

Best answer:

Answer by xfildchild
it depends on the spice. Herbs freeze better than certain ground spices. If you can buy whole spices and freeze them that way, and then grind them before you use them that is better, too. For a comprehensive guide to spices and how to care for them, go to foodtv.com. They have an entire section about spices that has been put together by chefs and cookbook authors that I find quite helpful.

Q&A: I want to make healthy cookies and sell them at a local coffee shop. What kind would you like?

Question by ShaMayMay: I want to make healthy cookies and sell them at a local coffee shop. What kind would you like?
They are all oatmeal and applesauce (instead of fat) based – not too sweet, I let the fruit or added stuff add the sweetness. “they dont taste healthy” (ive been told by a picky, chocoholic) Ive made Cherry Pecan (my fav), and Cherry Coconut Pecan & Date Pecan (my friend loves these). Please give me tasty ideas for sweet combinations – I know what I like and its not usually what everyone else likes.

When baking any type of cookies, the most common way to cook them is roll them into a ball.
They flatten as they cook.

When receiving Christmas gifts from other local businesses, what is the correct way to thank them?

Question by H.L. Page: When receiving Christmas gifts from other local businesses, what is the correct way to thank them?
I am a receptionist at a local newspaper, and for the past couple of weeks people from businesses and universities have been bringing in Christmas gifts for our office, (a box of oranges, a plate of holiday cookies, etc.) and I was just wondering what we could do to thank them for such a kind gesture. In some cases, the universities are 20 miles (or more) away and I personally feel like it is such a kind thought to bring gifts and treats to us. What can I do to show them that we are truly appreciative?

A nice Holiday Card with a handwritten thank you note inside.
