What are the Christmas Cookies that people usually put icing and colored sugar on?

Question by Sarah K: What are the Christmas Cookies that people usually put icing and colored sugar on?
They aren’t soft cookies and they aren’t sugar cookies. They’re really good and I want to make some, but I don’t know what they are. Also, if you could include a recipe, that would be a bonus! Thanks!

How do you show foreign people you’re culture?

Question by Johan: How do you show foreign people you’re culture?
Foreign = other nationality…

I’m gonna be a exchange student, and my mom asked me the other day:”How are you going to show the host family, our culture (Danish)”…

Please help me…

Answer by Toocutedobs
You could bring them a tradition craft as a gift, my exchange person gave me a handmade box from her country. You could cook a traditional meal for them and explain all the dishes, share with them holiday traditions, again food is good. Share your music, clothes, talk with them about certain behavioral traditions of your country. For example, in Australia is is considered good manners to “shout for a round” meaning buy your group of friends a drink at the bar, or bad manners to point with one finger as we do here in the US, Australian like to point with their whole hand. If you don’t cook you could bring over cheese, cookies, or another type of food that travels well. Also, you need to make it known that you are open yo learning what they have to share with you about their culture–remember the “Exchange” part. I hope you enjoy your time here. Best of luck!

Jacob’s is a popular brand of cookies (they call them biscuits in Ireland and in several other countries.)

Here’s a site where you can see what the tin looks like, and you can see a few other sweets popular in Ireland as well. http://www.littleshamrocks.com/Irish-Cookies.html

Your local supermarket may have them in the international section, or you may have to check a store that specializes in imports. This will depend on where you live and how many Irish people live there too.

(You’ll see some chocolate items from Cadbury on that website too. Cadbury is a brand of chocolate that is popular in Ireland, but it is not from Ireland. It is from England.)

You may also find real Irish tea in the international section of your supermarket, or possibly with other teas. Barry’s is a popular brand. Scroll down on this link to see a picture of the box: http://www.littleshamrocks.com/Irish-Coffee-and-Tea.html

Kerrygold is a popular brand of dairy, available across the U.S. The cheddar and butter are much fuller-flavored than the American versions. Scroll down here to see pictures of what they look like: http://www.littleshamrocks.com/Irish-Cheese.html

You could make scones or Irish soda bread. Serve on their own, or with a taste of high quality, real Irish butter, cheddar, or jam.

Here’s a super easy scone recipe that you can make:

Good luck with your project!
