Q&A: How long are sealed shortbread cookies fresh?

Question by callieco: How long are sealed shortbread cookies fresh?
I bought Valentine’s Day shortbread cookies a few weeks ago to send to a friend in Afghanistan. I just got her address so I was curious if they are even good enough to send. The are still in the original plaster container, unopened. I would hate for her to open them and they are bad. How long does a cookie like that last? Thanks!
The package has no expiration date.

From what I’ve experienced – commercially available unopened shortbread cookies should be good at least for period of 2-3 months. However go by the expiry date on the package, if it has one. Once opened – make sure it’s used up in a week.

You’ll want to freeze these cookies since they really only last a couple of days before they get hard as a rock
