Am making peanut butter cookies but have no baking powder, is it an absolute must??

    Yes! It is very important. Baking powder is a leavening compound in the recipe that makes the cookies rise as they bake. You can leave it out but the cookies will not rise and will be flat.

    the thing with baking is, it is a scientific endeavor.
    unlike cooking, which can be tweaked here and there, baking has a definite chemical interaction between ingredients.

    there is a balance between leavening, fat, sugar, salt, liquid and flour.
    if even one of those is messed with, it can create pretty bad results.
    baking powder is a leavening ingredient. now you can make a sort of substitution for it, but you cannot eliminate it.

    do you have any of the following ingredients?

    1 teaspoon baking powder = 1/4 teaspoon baking soda plus 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
    1 teaspoon baking powder = 1/2 teaspoon baking soda plus 1/2 cup buttermilk
    1 teaspoon baking powder also = 1/4 teaspoon baking soda plus 1/3 cup molasses.

    When using the substitutions that include liquid, reduce other liquid in recipe accordingly.

    They will bake just fine….probably be a little flat as baking soda helps them “puff” while baking.

    It is crucial. The thing about baking is it’s more of a science rather than cooking you can take and leave stuff and it’ll be fine. Everything in baking has to be there, or it won’t turn out. Also, make sure you level everything off and measure exact, otherwise it won’t turn out. The only exception is thing you don’t add to make the dough like chocolate chips, nuts, fruit, etc.. Those things you can experiment with. But the main components need to be precise.

    my peanut butter cookie recipe has no flour or baking powder at all

    Peanut Butter Cookies

    1 cup crunchy peanut butter
    1 cup brown sugar
    1 cup milk chocolate drops (i actually use a block of dark chocolate broken into chunks)
    1 egg

    Combine all together and put spoonfuls on a tray and bake at 180 degree Celsius for 10-15 minutes.

    If you don’t have any baking powder, I recommend trying the flourless peanut butter cookies. They’re so moist and yummy, I never make the regular ones anymore. They don’t take baking powder.

    If you use self rising flour, you don’t need to worry about baking powder, soda, or salt. It’s already in there.
