Q&A: Gingerbread cookies without cloves or molasses?

Question by jenni: Gingerbread cookies without cloves or molasses?
I want to make gingerbread cookies, but I don’t have any ground cloves or molasses on hand.
Is it possible to make them without? As in, are there any good substitutes to use, or should I not even bother?

  1. Miz Lamb says:

You should wait til you go to the store and get the molasses. Cloves doesn’t matter that much. But the molasses does.

You could make them with no spices at all and no molasses by using white karo, but then they would be like sugar cookies!!

  2. stir-gently says:

If you use dark brown sugar and ginger and cinnamon you should get a good cookie.

  3. Christian Cawthon says:

You can easily leave out the cloves

And for the molasses you can use syrup, one time i forgot to use etherthey tasted fine…. but different.
