    Italian Bow Knot Cookies Recipe

    4 cups flour
    4 teaspoons baking powder
    2 teaspoons salt
    6 beaten eggs
    1 cup sugar
    1/2 cup oil
    1 1/2 teaspoon lemon extract
    ***Lemon Icing:***
    1/4 cup butter
    1 pound confectioner’s sugar
    2 lemons, juiced


    Blend beaten eggs into dry ingredients, following with all other ingredients. Knead until smooth. Roll into pencil lengths and tie in bow knots. Bake on greased cookie sheets in a 400 degree oven for 15 minutes.

    Lemon Icing:

    Cream butter, add remaining ingredients. Stir until well blended. If too thin, add more sugar. Too thick, add more lemon juice.

    This recipe for Italian Bow Knot Cookies serves/makes 36

    Italian Cookies
    2 1/2 cups flour
    6 ounces cream
    3 eggs
    1 cup Crisco
    2 tablespoons almond extract
    1 tablespoon cinnamon
    1 1/2 cups sugar
    6 ounces milk
    1/2-1 cup oleo
    3 tablespoons baking powder
    1 cup nuts, chopped
    1 box powdered sugar
    1/2-1 cup butter or oleo
    food coloring
    8 servings

    1. Cream oleo, Crisco and sugar.
    2. Add eggs, almond extract, cinnamon, cream and milk.
    3. Mix in nuts and baking powder and flour.
    4. Roll small balls into long rolls, then kind of flatten it.
    5. Slice in 1/2 inch pieces.
    6. Put on cookie sheet.
    7. Bake until done at 350 degrees.
    8. Mix melted butter and powdered sugar.
    9. Put in small containers and add different food colorings.
    10. Spread on cooled cookies and let harden.
    11. Then put in canned containers.
    12. Can store for months.
