ah you popping the big question? try getting a furtune cookie that’s still partially open so you can take the fortune and switch it.i’m not sure if you could steam a cookie but if i were to i would get a kettle and hold the fortune cookie in the steam when it starts to boil.not sure if the cookie would return to it’s original texture though?

Wet a white paper towel and wring it out (no drips). Unwrap one fortune cookie and rewrap it in the damp paper towel. Place the towel-wrapped cookie on a plate. Bake on high in a microwave for 20-30 seconds. Remove quickly and open the soft cookie. Promptly replace the stock message with your proposal. Close the cookie in its original shape. You have about 12-15 seconds to do this because once the cookie cools it is brittle. (In the test, three out of four cookies did not break.) Let cool.

its not good to steam them open they will end up soggy. but here’s a recipe to make your own fortune cookies and you can put your own fortunes inside. I made these at a camp cooking contest but you can use a frying pan or cast iron skillet or cast iron griddle just as easily as the camp Dutch oven lid. Good Luck!

    Dragon-size Fortune Cookies

    ½ c. all purpose flour
    1 Tbs. corn starch
    ¼ c. sugar
    ¼ tsp. salt
    ¼ c. vegetable oil
    2 large egg whites
    1 ½ tsp. water
    ½ tsp. vanilla extract
    ½ tsp. almond extract
    3 fortunes on ½” X 3” paper

In a bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, sugar, and salt. Blend in remaining ingredients and stir until smooth. Bake one cookie at a time on a 12” Dutch oven pre-heated lid, using the Dutch oven upside-down. Evenly spread 1/3 cup batter in a circle onto the center of the oiled lid into a 10” circle. Bake 13 to 15 minutes at 300° until the edges are a light golden brown.
Place a fortune in the center of the cookie and fold in half using pot holders to protect your hands from the hot cookie. Grasp the ends of the folded cookie and gently pull the ends together. You may start the bend by bending the cookie over the corner of a table, edge of a Dutch oven, or measuring cup. Hold the ends together for a minute for the cookie to hold its shape. Repeat with remaining batter.
The temperature is critical when baking fortune cookies. If it rises over 300°, the edges will be over browned and crack.
    Makes 3 cookies; serves 6
