cream a stick of margerine with about a cup and 1/2 of sugar and 1 egg. add 2 teaspoons of baking powder 1 teaspoon vanilla and cake or bread flour to make a non sticky dough. Kneed a few times but don’t over work the dough. Roll out on a floured surface and cut out with cookie cutters or an inverted drinking glass. Place on a greesed sheet and sprinkle with sugar or colored sprinkles etc. bake for about 10 -12 min in preheated 375 oven

    Sugar Cookies

    * 2 cups all-purpose flour
    * 1/4 tsp salt
    * 1-1/2 sticks salted butter, softened
    * 3/4 cup granulated sugar
    * 1 large egg
    * 1 tsp vanilla extract
    * colored sugars or sprinkles (as desired)
    Yield: about 3 doz
    * Preheat oven to 325 degrees
    * In a medium bowl, combine the flour and salt with a wire whisk
    * In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed. Add the egg and vanilla, and beat until well mixed. Scrape down sides of bowl, then add the flour mixture. Blend on low speed until just combined. Don’t overmix. (I don’t use an electric mixer as the recipe suggests, but the cookies still turn out great)
    * Gather dough into a ball. Flatten the ball into a disk and wrap tighly in plastic wrap or a plastic bag. Refrigerate 1 hr or until firm.
    * On a floured surface, roll out dough to a 1/4″ thickness. With cookie cutters, cut dough into desired shapes and place on ungreased cookie sheets. Decorate with colored sugar or sprinkles if desired.
    * Bake for 13-15 minutes, being careful not to brown. Immediately transfer cookies with a spatula to a cool, flat surface.
