Has anyone found and made a legit lofthouse cookie frosting recipe?

Question by Katie: Has anyone found and made a legit lofthouse cookie frosting recipe?
For years, and seriously, years, my mom and I have been trying to replicate Lofthouse cookie frosting and we have yet to find a recipe. I search everywhere online and none of the recipes seem to turn out right. They ALWAYS turn out like some glaze and they turn all hard and crunchy even when stored properly.

Does anyone know of a recipe that has properly replicated the frosting? I got the cookie recipe down. I just need the frosting.

Go to epicurious, com Frosting is just butter and sugar, sometimes with some chocolate or coconut or whatever else you want to throw in. I know tollhouse cookies. I never heard of lofthouse cookies.

You know of course, the actual lofthouse frosting has a lot of chemicals in it to act as preservatives and emulsifiers. These products are not available to the home baker because they are dangerous if the amounts are not monitored closely. You may however come up with something which tastes better to you.
This is the recipe which I have that is supposed to taste like lofthouse frosting:
    4 cups confectioners’ sugar
    1/2 cup shortening
    5 tablespoons milk
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    food coloring (optional)
In a large bowl, cream together the confectioners’ sugar and shortening until smooth. Gradually mix in the milk and vanilla with an electric mixer until smooth and stiff, about 5 minutes. Color with food coloring if desired. Can also change the flavoring using other flavors
I used to work in a cookie bouquets shop and this is the icing we used for our cookies, I think it is way better….try both recipes and see what you think.

3 egg whites, at room temp. (pasteurized) or 3Tbs. meringue powder + 6 Tbs. water
Whip 2 min., fast speed or until stiff.
    1/2 tsp. almond extract
    1 tsp. vanilla
1 lb. powdered sugar (1 box)
    2 TBS. Crisco
Mix on low speed until smooth.
